Club Roundup – April/May

Dead Poets Society

Dead Poets Society is one of our newest clubs in the Upper Division. It is designed for creative writers in our high school. They have collaborated with the Graphic Arts & Design class and have created their very own literary magazine. This new club offers freedom to express creativity not only in writing but also in art and design as well. They hope to establish extra credit and possibly field trip opportunities in the future.

Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books is a Middle Division Club advised by Mr. Gibson. The members, such as Captain Saneyah Khan, have been preparing for competition for weeks. They read up to fifteen books from the Sunshine State Young Reader’s Award List and take a competitive exam. The Academy team will compete on this week, on May 3rd against seven other schools who which are member schools in the Bay Area Association of Independent schools at Berkeley Preparatory School.

“The purpose of the club is to promote pleasure reading and have fun,”  says Gibson.

It is designed to encourage students to read quality literature and prepare for their readings in high school, such as Hemingway.
